Chiara Liqui Lung, fintech founder, growth strategist and venture builder

Portrait of Chiara Liqui Lung in a tweed blazer, smiling

Growth strategist & venture builder. I build money products, grow them and share what I learn along the way.

Based in Rotterdam. Fintech growth since 2017 across Europe and the Caribbean.

Experience.

Founder, operator and advisor. I've built fintech products and helped banks, corporates and scale-ups launch theirs. That means I know both sides of the table: the speed of a startup and the reality of a regulated bank. I bring both to every project.

Record.

What I'm known for, in numbers where I can share them.

What it was
It started as a broker app for investing with your values. We did the research and were ready to apply to become a broker, but the licence, capital and regulatory work cost more than we could raise. So we pivoted to an add-on: data on 4,000+ listed companies across eight impact metrics, plus a portfolio check that shows whether the investments you already hold match your values.
Why it stopped
We could not raise the funding to become a broker. Without the licence, investors saw the add-on as a feature rather than a company. We closed Finuprise in 2024.
What I kept
Regulation shapes the business model before the product does, so I cost the licence path on day one. And the timing has turned: under the EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), large companies now publish standardised sustainability data, which makes a tool like this a ready-made add-on for established brokers.

What it was
An app that put all your existing investment portfolios in one view and turned gifting into investing. Asked what you want for your birthday? Send a Monytri link and people add money straight to your investments. You could gift to your contacts, repeat it every birthday, and learn the basics of investing. Featured in Forbes.
Why it stopped
Regulation. Before we could partner with brokers we needed the regulatory side in place, and every broker would need its own integration. We could not find a regulatory route that made that possible, so we turned to selling Monytri to banks instead.
What I kept
Finuprise and Monytri taught me the same lesson: bring a bank on board or secure regulatory approval from the very start. Both products could stand on their own, yet they add the most value as a tool on top of a platform people already use. Building new products is great. Having a bank or neobank behind you is what makes them excel.

What it was
Group gifts without the group chat. Normally someone sets up a chat, asks what the person wants and chases everyone for how much they will chip in. With Monygift the organiser creates one link, sends it to everyone who wants in, and watches the pot fill up. Everyone can add a message, and together those become a personal video or card for the person receiving the gift.
Why it stopped
The timing was not right, so it never launched.
What I kept
Always launch sooner than you think.

Rounded Bitcoin prices on 1 January as a stand-in, as the fund stays anonymous. Ignores fees and exchange rates. Past performance says nothing about the future.

A rebuild of the landing page calculator.

Role
Go-to-market consultant
What it was
A landing page calculator for a European crypto investment fund. Visitors pick an amount and a start date and see, from historical data, what their money would be worth today.
Why it stopped
It didn't. The calculator was delivered and is live on the client's site.
What I kept
The IKEA effect works on landing pages too. People value what they help build, so a visitor who builds their own scenario owns the outcome. That does more for a sceptical crypto audience than any claim a fund can make about itself.
